Professor Andrew Westby OBE is an internationally recognised food scientist and academic leader at the University of Greenwich. A former Director of the Natural Resources Institute (NRI), he led the Institute for over a decade, strengthening its global reputation in food security and sustainable development. His research has focused on tropical root crops, particularly cassava, improving processing, quality and livelihoods in sub‑Saharan Africa. He has worked extensively with governments, NGOs and international funders including the EU and FCDO. In recognition of his services to food security and research leadership, he was awarded an OBE in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours. He currently serves as Deputy Vice‑Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange.
